Cargo Operations
The major imported commodities are oil, grain, furniture, tobacco, plastic granules, beer, wood, machinery, chemicals, textiles, foodstuffs and electrical commodities whilst exports include foodstuffs, textiles, electronic equipment, bank notes, fruit juices, fresh potatoes, frozen tuna, paper, electrical switchgear; and scrap material.
Whilst some volumes move by trailers and airfreight, most of these cargoes are transported by sea. Moreover with its accession into the European Union and its strategic location on the Union’s southern-most border, Malta has become an important gateway to the African continent.
Cargo operations are held mainly in Valletta port or at Marsaxlokk harbour. Bianchi Shipping is experienced in handling all types of cargo including containers, ro-ro, conventional and break-bulk.
